Everything By Saying Nothing
Everything By Saying Nothing, is about how one claims their sense of identity and how it is communicated through interpersonal relationships in a non-verbal way. I wanted to explore this topic because I find that I have a difficult time opening up and talking about myself with people I do not know. This vehicle would allow those like me to express themselves visually. I examined what Iām calling declarative identity, or what one is comfortable sharing, in addition to the elements that make up an identity that may be considered less desirable or more personal qualities. I created a series of patches to apply to jackets to communicate this concept. Each jacket is based on a specific person in my life with who I feel I share a close connection. The patches on the jackets are representative of the good and bad qualities of these people, as well as their general interests, likes, and things I associate with them.
